Optical Coating Enginner

About Us

Shape Optics Technologies Pte Ltd is a Singapore-based leader in advanced optical engineering, specializing in high-precision optical components, thin-film coatings, and custom photonics solutions for global clients in imaging, sensing, laser, and infrared applications.

Our thin-film coating facility supports demanding industries requiring superior optical performance and reliability. As we expand our manufacturing capabilities, we are seeking a dedicated Optical Thin-Film Coating Engineer to join our growing team.

Job Summary

Shape Optics Technologies is seeking a skilled Optical Thin-Film Coating Engineer to support the design, development, and production of high-quality optical coatings for lenses, windows, mirrors, and precision photonics components.

This role covers all aspects of thin-film coating operations—including optical coating design, process development, equipment operation, quality inspection, and preventive maintenance—to ensure that all coated products meet stringent optical performance standards and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

(Must be able to perform with or without accommodation)

Optical Coating Operations

  • Inspect all “cleaned for coating” optics to ensure surfaces are free of defects and contamination.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints, ensuring full compliance with coating specifications.
  • Operate coating equipment including crystal monitors, optical monitors, vacuum chambers, and PC-based control systems.
  • Run, manage, and verify “Optical Thin-Film Coating Programs” for different coating types (AR, HR, beamsplitters, filters, mirrors).
  • Perform thin-film modelling and adjustment of coating stacks using simulation tools.

Coating Design & Process Control

  • Calculate and optimize work-to-monitor ratios for coating accuracy.
  • Adjust coating formulas for glass index variations and wavelength shifts.
  • Analyze process results, troubleshoot issues, and refine parameters for improved yield and performance.
  • Support the development of new coating recipes, processes, and techniques.

Equipment & Cleanroom Maintenance

  • Oversee usage and performance of coating equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs to ensure stable operation.
  • Contribute to improvements in equipment, fixtures, and workflow processes.

Physical Requirements

  • Comfortable working in a production and cleanroom environment.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, talk, and perform manual inspections.
  • Excellent vision for precision surface inspection.
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs frequently and up to 75 lbs occasionally.
  • Ability to climb ladders when required.
  • Ability to input parameters into PC-controlled equipment and instruments.

About Our Optical Thin-Film Coating Cleanroom

Our thin-film coating cleanrooms maintain a strict contamination-controlled environment using HEPA or ULPA filtration.

  • Laminar (unidirectional) flow systems provide constant downward airflow across the ceiling area.
  • These conditions are essential for maintaining uniform coating deposition and ensuring repeatable optical performance.
  • ISO-1 to ISO-4 level laminar flow standards are applied where required, including in laminar flow hoods and precision workstations.
